BRIEF: Blackstone man charged with raping disabled person on Vineyard

Cape Cod Times (Hyannis, MA) - 6/30/2016

June 30--EDGARTOWN -- A man who delivered magazines on Martha's Vineyard faces charges of rape and indecent assault on a disabled person.

William Clasby, 51, of Blackstone, was arrested June 23 and arraigned in Edgartown District Court later the same day on six counts of rape and five counts of indecent assault and battery on a person who is disabled.

The defendant delivers magazines to island retailers from the mainland on a regular basis, said Edgartown police Detective Jonathan Searle. The incidents began in October 2015 and lasted until early June, Searle said. The victim reported him to the police.

Searle said the victim worked at one of the establishments where Clasby delivered magazines.

The court entered not guilty pleas on his behalf. Clasby was released from jail Monday on $30,000 cash bail, Searle said. Conditions of bail include orders to stay away from the victim and the victim's workplace.

Clasby is due back in court July 21 for a probable cause hearing.
