Solano County seniors invited to free speaker series on healthy aging

March 05--Aging happens. But Kaiser Permanente officials say there are things you can learn to help you age well.

Kaiser doctors and specialists will be among the speakers at the free Aging With Vitality speaker series, hosted by the Senior Coalition of Solano County, they said. The four-part educational series will be held at the Kroc Center, 586 East Wigeon Way in Suisun, on four consecutive Saturdays -- March 7, 14, 21, and 28 -- offering information, education and resources on several health topics impacting older adults in our community, Kaiser officials said.

Topics include: --March 7 --Kaiser surgeon Gillian Kuehner speaks on advances in breast cancer diagnoses and treatment. Improved screening and better treatments have significantly improved the cure and 5-year survival rates for breast cancer in the United States over the past 20 years. Kuehner, Kaiser oncologist Tatjana Kolevska, and genetic counselor Audrey Karlea, will also discuss screening and testing to identify women at high risk for breast cancer and the cutting edge and targeted treatments available to breast cancer patients. --March 21 --Kaiser physician and geriatric specialist Michael Mason, will discuss cognitive health and dementia. He'll share information on dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other conditions that can impact and reduce cognitive function and also how lifestyle changes and symptom management can enhance the quality of life. All four sessions, from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., are free, as is breakfast and lunch, and there's free transportation to and from the Kroc Center in Suisun.
